Down towards the Avoca River there is a beautiful and tranquil Chinese Heritage Garden, as well grassy, shaded river flats beside the river itself where you can enjoy a peaceful stroll.
Avoca has many historic buildings spread throughout the town - quite a few of them dating back to the wild gold-rush era of the middle of the Nineteenth Century. The local Historical Society is based in the original Avoca Court House and can provide visitors with all sorts of information about the history of the town and greater regional area.
To the north of the town, along the Sunraysia Highway is the historic Avoca Cemetery with a special historical Chinese Burial Site area dating back to the times of the gold-rush.
Avoca is perfectly situated for visitors who want to explore all that the wonderful Victorian Pyrenees ranges have to offer. There are some amazing world-class wineries within no more than a 10 minute drive from town as well as further afield in the nearby towns of Moonambel, Redbank and Landsborough. Famous names such as Blue Pyrenees Estate, Taltarni, Dalwhinnie and Sally's Paddock are all here and there are many new and rising stars for the wine-lover to discover.
Then, of course, there are the majestic Pyrenees ranges to explore, with hiking trails, waterfalls, lakes, trail bike and four-wheel-drive tracks. There is an abundance of wonderful scenery and vistas from all over the range, looking out over the town of Avoca to the east, south to the Grampians or west and north out to the mallee. Early morning or evening are the best times to spot the local wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, cockatoos and even wedge-tailed eagles.
